CBC (Ottawa) Music in Schools Award
In 2001, CBC Ottawa opened a fund through the Community Foundation of Ottawa. The fund was made possible through the then CBC Classical Encounters concerts. Through this fund, the CBC (Ottawa) Music in School award was established in partnership with the Kiwanis Music Festival – National Capital Region. A trophy and a cash prize is presented each year to a school band, choir or ensemble to further music education in schools. (There was a pause on the awards during the Covid shutdown.) CBC Ottawa is pleased to be able to continue supporting music education.
A draw is made of the names of all the school-based ensembles who participate in the Festival that year. The first name picked received $1,000, the second received $500 and the third receives $200.
