CLASS 8 - HONOURABLE BARBARA A. HAGERMAN PLAQUE & AWARD

The Honourable Barbara A. Hagerman Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a community choral group of 13 or more singers, the majority of whom are 19 years and over. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts. Only one of the selections may be a folk song. Brief solo passages are allowed.

CLASS 9 - CITY OF LINCOLN AWARD PLAQUE & AWARD

The City of Lincoln Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a choral group of 13 or more male singers. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts. Only one of the two selections may be a folksong. Brief solo passages are allowed.

CLASS 10 - GEORGE S. MATHIESON PLAQUE & AWARD

The George S. Mathieson Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a community choral group of 13 or more singers, aged 19 years and under as of December 31 prior to the National Festival. Five percent (5%) of the choir membership may exceed the specified age limit by no more than two (2) years. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts. Only one of the two selections may be a folksong. Brief solo passages are allowed.

CLASS 11 - PAUL J. BOURRET PLAQUE & AWARD

The Paul J. Bourret Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a choral group, from a single school of 13 or more singers, aged 19 and under. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts. Only one of the two selections may be a folksong. Brief solo passages are allowed.

CLASS 12 - RICHARD W. COOKE PLAQUE & AWARD

The Richard W. Cooke Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a community ensemble of 8 to 12 singers with no age limitations. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts and one of which must be a madrigal. Brief solo passages are allowed. Contemporary madrigals will be accepted.

CLASS 13 - DR & MRS. J.F.K. ENGLISH PLAQUE & AWARD

The Dr. & Mrs. J.F.K. English Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a community choral group of 13 or more singers, aged 16 years and under as of December 31 prior to the National Festival. Five percent (5%) of the choir membership may exceed the specified age limit by no more than two (2) years. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts. Only one of the two selections may be a folksong. Brief solo passages are allowed.

CLASS 14 - DAVID OUCHTERLONY PLAQUE & AWARD

The David Ouchterlony Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a choral group, from a single school of 13 or more singers, aged 16 and under as of December 31 prior to the National Festival. Five percent (5%) of the choir membership may exceed the specified age limit by no more than two (2) years. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in two or more parts. Only one of the two selections may be a folksong. Brief solo passages are allowed.

CLASS 15 - MARGARET WHARTON MEMORIAL PLAQUE & AWARD

The Margaret Wharton Memorial Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a community choral group of 13 or more singers, aged 12 years and under as of December 31 prior to the National Festival. Five percent (5%) of the choir membership may exceed the specified age limit by no more than two (2) years. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in two or more parts. Only one of the two selections may be a folksong. Brief solo passages are allowed.

CLASS 16 - SISTER FLORINE DÉSPRES PLAQUE & AWARD

The Margaret Wharton Memorial Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a school choral group of 13 or more singers, aged 12 years and under as of December 31 prior to the National Festival. CLASS 17 - THE BARBARA CLARK PLAQUE & AWARD

The Barbara Clark Plaque and Award shall be given for the best performance by a community choral group of 13 or more singers, the majority of whom are 25 years and under. Five percent (5%) of the choir membership may exceed the specified age limit by no more than two (2) years. Competition is based on the total performance of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts. Only one of the selections may be a folk song. Brief solo passages are allowed.

 

Provincial Qualifying Classes have been established to be consistent with the Regulations at the Provincial Level. Representative to the Provincial Level may be chosen, at the adjudicator's discretion, from the following classes.

C024 - CHORAL GROUP - MALE VOICES (P)            $52.00

Community choir of 13 or more male voices. Own selection of two contrasting selections, one of which must be sung in three or more parts. One of the two selections may be a folk song. Brief solo passages are allowed.

SACRED CHOIRS

Open to Church choirs only. All competitors must perform as a church choir on a regular basis. Please state selections and time on entry form.

C025 - S.A.T.B SENIOR CHURCH CHOIRS            $52.00

Own selection of two contrasting pieces of sacred music. Time limit 10 minutes.

C026 - THE ANGLICAN OFFICE, JUNIOR, 16 years & under (T)            $52.00

Evensong from O Lord, Open Though Our Lips, to end of third collect including the Psalm (own selection, not exceeding 12 verses), omitting the Creed and Nunc Dimitties. Settings and responses of own choice.

C027 - THE ANGLICAN OFFICE, OPEN            $52.00

A non-competitive class open to church choirs of all denominations performing excerpts of their own liturgy. Time limit 8 minutes.

C031 - JUNIOR CHURCH CHOIR - 16 years & under (T)            $52.00

Own selection of two contrasting pieces of sacred music. Time limit 10 minutes.

C032 - INTERMEDIATE CHURCH CHOIR - 18 years & under            $52.00

Own selection of two contrasting pieces of sacred music. Time limit 10 minutes.

 

CHORAL ENSEMBLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHORUS

NOTES: (See Rules 13,23,24)The following rules apply to school choirs entered in Classes C070 to C072

l. Pupils in any entry must come from the same school.

2. Pupils may be taken from any number of classes in the same school but must be from the grade designated.

3. Choirs must consist of not fewer than 15 (except for Kindergarten).

4. English test pieces have been selected for Classes C070 to C072.

Choirs are to sing the English test pieces AND an "own selection." French choirs may sing two "own selections" if preferred.

NOTE: CLASSES C070 TO C072 are NON-COMPETITIVE; an adjudication will be given but no mark.

The Kiwanis Music Festival, National Capital Region is offering a workshop approach to classes C070 to C072. Bring your young singers to experience the joy of singing together in one massed choir piece that all learn. In addition your group will perform one of your own choice for the other groups. A clinician will make general comments and workshop the massed choir piece with all. A true in-service experience for singers and teacher. Both the massed choir piece and the own selection piece must be performed by each choir

NOTE: See Rule 13.Classes C120 - C143 inclusive are intended for those participants who obtain the majority of their training in and during the regular day school which they attend.

1. These classes will be awarded the Gold, Silver and Bronze Certificates NOT the graded standards (1st, 2nd, 3rd)

2. The Advanced classes are intended for the "Arts Schools" although any School Choir may enter.
