EARLY MUSIC CONSORTS

NOTE: See rules 13, 25 and 26. Ensembles entering these classes will perform music written before 1650, and are encouraged to include instruments of the periods. Ensembles consisting only of recorders should enter the appropriate recorder ensemble class. Choose one or more selections. PLEASE STATE SELECTIONS AND TIME ON ENTRY FORM.

CHAMBER MUSIC - BOWED STRINGED INSTRUMENTS ONLY

NOTES: 1. Classes CHS01 to CHS12 must include at least one dissimilar instrument. Ensembles of similar instruments must enter Classes CHS13 to CHS16.

2. A piano or harpsichord is not an acceptable instrument in duet classes (CHS01 to CHS04).

3. Brass and Winds ensembles, recorder ensembles, flute ensembles and early music consorts are excluded from the chamber music classes listed below. Classes for these groups are offered in the "Chamber - Brass and Wind Instruments Only", "Recorder" and "Flute" sections of the syllabus.

4. To assist in programming the Festival, competitors are required to state instruments and part played by each member of the ensemble on the entry form. Timing, to the nearest minute, must be stated on the entry form.

5. In all Chamber Music classes, the adjudicator must be provided with a full score of the music to be performed even if it has to be written by hand. Parts printed on separate sheets are unacceptable. Please state selections and time on entry form.

ANANTARAMAN TROPHY AND SCHOLARSHIP ENSEMBLE CLASS

A representative to the Provincial Level of competition may be chosen from CHS20 class and or class E09. To be eligible for Provincial competition the provincial requirements must be followed. Please refer to class E09 for Provincial requirements.

CHS20 - ADVANCED STRING ENSEMBLE (P) (T)            $39.00

Two to four players, with or without accompaniment. Violin, Viola, Cello or Bass. Own selection(s). Time limit 40 minutes. Please state selection(s) and time on entry form. A Piano trio is permitted. The piano part of a piano trio must be original and not an orchestral reduction.

 

CHAMBER MUSIC - BRASS AND WIND INSTRUMENTS ONLY

1. Classes CHW01 to CHW12 must include at least one dissimilar instrument. Ensembles of similar instruments must enter classes CHW13 to CHW16.

ENSEMBLE - PROVINCIAL QUALIFYING CLASS

An Ensemble Provincial Qualifying Classes has been established to be consistent with the Regulations at the Provincial Level. A representative to the Provincial Level of competition may be chosen from this class and/or class CHS20.

E09 - CHAMBER ENSEMBLES (P)            $39.00

A combination of any recognized orchestral instruments including harp, guitar, recorder and/or percussion with or without piano and/or one voice with a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 6 performers, one performer to a part. When piano is included, the piano part must be original and not an orchestral reduction. Two own selections consisting or (a) at least two consecutive movements and (b) another selection which is not another movement of (a) above. Time limit 40 minutes. Please state selections, time and instruments played on entry form.

VARIOUS OTHER ENSEMBLES

NOTE: This section includes Classes E10 to E40. Classes E10A to E22E will be rated in the same way as described in the General Rules for Bands.Please state selections and time on entry form.
